This Pair of Victorian walnut bedside cabinets were made circa 1860-1870
Originally these were part of a dressing table but were adapted to be bedside cabinets more recently. This will be the case with 99% of pairs of Victorian bedside cabinets you will see elsewhere as it was something that wasn’t made at the time. In the Victorian period each bedroom would have had one chamber cabinet to store the chamber pots.
As time moved on and the advent of electric light people could sit in bed and read therefore bedside cabinets became a must have. Cabinet makers were asked to provide such items by adapting redundant and out of fashion large dressing antique tables which are too big for the modern home to be made into the more desirable bedside pieces.
This pair we are offering have a single drawer and a fitted cupboard where the majority you see are just a stack of drawers, this pair of bedside cabinets are more versatile.
