Gold pair cases, 50.5 mm.
Cylinder movement
A London cylinder movement, in fine gold pair cases, from a prestigious firm of watchmakers. All in exceptional condition.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock. Exceptionally large diamond endstone, polished steel escape wheel, four round pillars, large silver regulator disk and clean blued screws. Signed (Ellicott, LONDON) and numbered (8837).
The movement is protected by a removable gilt dustcap, signed and numbered as the movement.
This movement is in exceptional condition, and is running well.
DIAL : Good white enamel dial in perfect condition, with gold spade hands.
INNER CASE : 18ct rose gold, with nice clear London hallmarks for 1800, maker's mark IM and serial number matching the movement (8837).
In very fine condition. The high dome crystal is also fine.
OUTER CASE : 18ct. rose gold pair case with clear matching hallmarks to the inner. (matching hallmarks also on the bezel). Again in very fine condition throughout. Nice hidden hinge.
The back of the outer case is beautifully engraved with a monogram (possibly JMV) and a family crest.
The gold cases are quite substantial, with a total gold weight of 62 gms., excluding crystal.
In 1800 the Ellicott firm was run by Edward Ellicott II, until 1835. He became a Freeman of the Clockmakers' Company in 1795, and was the son on Edward I, who held the Royal Warrant of Watchmaker to King George III. Free worldwide postage.
