Pocket watch - silver pair cases, London, c1720

No. 1219
James Smith
London
c1720
Silver pair cases
55.8 mm
Verge
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with a very unusual skeletonised balance cock Signed 'James Smith, London, and numbered (589). In good condition (just one piece of the ornamental stopwork bracket missing), and running.
There are 2 unused screw holes on either side of the balance cock table, so this may have originally had a glass cover fixed by 2 screws.
DIAL : Silver champleve dial, with signed (Smith, London) central disk, showing a mask and shell. In good condition, though with a little wear to the signature within the central disk. Fancy gilt hands.
INNER CASE : Maker's mark rubbed. In quite good condition, though the pendant and stem are later replacements and there is a small hole near the stem where it has been attached. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome crystal is fine.
OUTER CASE : The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes correctly, though there are bruises to the bezel and back, resulting in a couple of short splits on the back (one in the centre and the other near the catch).
Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
