Pr 13 1/2" Mahogany Open Barley Twist Candlesticks

A pleasant change to find a pair of open barley twist candle sticks in Mahogany rather than the Oak usually seen. Slightly more refined, the bases are beautifully turned and the smooth grain skilfully carved.
Not to be confused with a simple pair of twists, these are the highly sought-after "open" twists, with two hand carved twists spiralling around each other.
The tops both have a brass inserted sconce acting as a drip tray to protect the wood from any hot wax drips. One of the undersides of the bases retains the original velvet covering, the other having had the base re-covered in a green baize at some point.
The pair do stand straight, when photographed as a pair, it often looks like one is leaning, but this is not the case.
Dating to around 1880, they both remain in excellent condition, an impressive 13 1/2" tall with a base diameter measuring 5 3/4".
