Pair of oil on canvas views (from differing angles) of Bygland in Norway by Robert Gallon (1845-1925). The church in the picture can still be visited today.
Robert Gallon was born in London in 1845. He was a well recognised landscape artist painting in both oils and watercolours. He began to exhibit in 1868 aged 23 and continued through to 1903. He died in 1925.
Gallon exhibited at the Royal Academy 32 times and at the Royal Society of British Artists 27 times. His works appear from time to time at the major auction houses.
These two paintings were purchased from an elderly customer who was down-sizing. They were originally purchased by the vendor's grandfather at a country house sale in c1900.
