Quality Brass Bound Mahogany Jewellery Box c.1840

A great early nineteenth century brass bound campaign box made from a very hefty piece of solid Mahogany. This top-notch example box is beautifully brass bound and has a flush inlaid brass military style handle.
The box is beautifully bound with straps running from back to front and strappings running right around the sides, a true sign of quality.
Once opened, the box reveals a professionally re-lined box in navy blue velvet, clean, fresh and ready for many years of use by either a discerning lady or gentleman. The interior is unusual with three trays revealed, the outer two can be removed and the central tray is where this box becomes particularly unusual. Once the two outer trays are removed, the central one can be slid to the left to reveal a secret compartment below and contains a small removable box with a sliding lid, perfect to hide away those precious gems!
Excellent condition and a grand impressive size, measuring 12" x 9" x 4" tall.
