Quarter Striking, English Fusee Four Glass clock

A most attractive, superlative quality 8 day ¼ striking double fusee English Four Glass.
The well figured, rosewood case with bevel edged glasses to the sides and top, having adjustable bun feet and surmounted by a foliate folding handle.
The 4 ½ inch square, gilt dial with black Roman numerals and outer minutes chapter, being beautifully decorated with asymmetrically scrolling to the centre and corners, having blued steel ‘moon hands and complimented by a similarly engraved, gilt mark to the front door. The substantial, twin chain fusee movement with four knopped pillars and anchor escapement, the quarters being sounded on two blued steel gongs and the hours on a single gong.
In the tradition of English four glass antique clocks of the mid 19th century, this particular example is rare because it is quarter striking, a most unusual and desirable feature.
C. 1850 Height 10 ½” handle down, 12” handle up. (26.5cm/30.5cm)
