R. Stott Oil Portrait Of Kudu After David Shepherd

We are offering for sale this very well executed Oil on Canvas of a Kudu by the artist R. Stott, signed and entitled verso, after the well known painting by David Shepherd, the celebrated wildlife artist. As the David Shepherd painting was published as a print in 1969, and from the age of the canvas, we estimate that the painting was executed in the 1970s/80s.
Richard David Shepherd CBE FRSA FGRA (25 April 1931 – 19 September 2017) was a British artist and one of the world's most outspoken conservationists. He was most famous for his paintings of steam locomotives (he owned a number of them) and wildlife, although he also often painted aircraft, portraits (notably The late Queen Mother) and landscapes. His work has been extremely popular since the 1960s in limited edition print reproduction and poster form, as well as other media such as Wedgwood limited edition plates. He published five books about his art, including an autobiography.
The painting has been newly framed in a 2 3/8" reeded cream frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
Image size: 23 1/4" x 19 1/4" - 59cm x 48.75cm
Frame size: 27 3/4" x 23 7/8" - 70.5cm x 60.65cm
Medium: Oils on canvas
Condition: Excellent. the surface is clean and taut. The frame is new.
