Rare 1948 Jungle Themed Stratton Compact
One of a kind gift ideas rare Stratton compact 1948 vintage compact mirrors JUNGLE THEMED gifts for her bridesmaids / best friends
This rare 1948 compact is suitable for loose face powder or as a handbag mirror.
This is such a charming vintage vanity. The lid of the compact shows a bird of paradise flying in the rain forest. Creepers, vines, and lianas frame the scene perfectly & the whole compact has a deep patina - almost brown with age. This model of compact is called a Stratton 'Scone without an inner lid' & was known to be available in 1948. The production run of this model was extremely short as is was superseded by the Stratton 'Scone' which does have an inner lid. However, I have not seen this lid before on any model of compact which makes this all the more appealing. The compact opens to reveal a framed mirror that gives an excellent reflection. The frame is signed 'STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND'. As you would expect this compact has a gilded powder well which is shallow. The base is decorated with a fine spiral. This compact comes with a free velvet drawstring pouch to protect it.
This compact measures 3" & weighs 70.5 grams.
