A hard to find compact in the original presentation box.
An English made mid-century romantic themed powder compact in good condition. The lid shows the most romantic and famous imagery - the moment Eve offers Adam the apple. The lid decoration is enchanting - embossed in 22 carat gold intricate and without loss of gold. The tree entwined by the serpent, Adam and Eve and the borders showing a variety of gold embossed fruit in perfect symmetry. The compact has never been used for face powder and has spent over sixty years in the original presentation box which has preserved it well. The presentation box has these words printed on it - " PANEL EMBOSSED WITH 22 CARAT GOLD " on the front. On the back of the box there is an image of a piece of paper with the word " FROM......... " and a section to write on and below this the words " 22 CARAT GOLD EMBOSSED ......MADE IN ENGLAND ". All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The mirror is excellent and gives a clear accurate reflection. The mirror is framed by a slender bezel which like the rest of the compact is high quality brass with a deep rich patina. The powder well lid top and underside are satinized lacquered brass, as is the base. The powder well has been coated with a protective coat of golden enamel which has a granulated look. The original sifter is in place and it is pristine. I have been unable to capture the intricacy of the gold embossing - in person the compact is much more beautiful and finely detailed.
The subject matter and the fact this compact has not been used make this vanity highly collectible.
This delightful compact mirror measures almost 9 cm x 8 cm & weighs 144.8 grams.
