A rare authentic Art Deco Palmers compact - the last compact produced by Solon Palmer. Solon Palmer established his perfumery in 1847 making this perfume house one of the oldest in America. This compact dates to 1935 & so not only does it look Art Deco, it is the real deal. The lid & base are decorated with stylish black enamel & the front has the most gorgeous Art Deco design. Classic sleek elegant lines with the stylized Art Deco sun in gleaming brass with two angular rays which finish this composition off perfectly.
This is such a well made compact with fine details that will not be lost on the collector. For example the interior is sleek chrome - this gleaming silver is interrupted by the golden hinge, the catch & around all the edges the slim subtle border of the brass from the outer case. The compartment for powder is stamped 'PAT. NO. 1886, 722' & contains the original puff signed 'Palmers' in elegant script. The powder well has a sliding lid & is stamped 'SLIDE OPEN TO FILL WITH POWDER MADE IN U.S.A.'. Not only this - the whole powder compartment also slides down so that you may position it where you wish within the inner case. The sliding section is inscribed 'SLIDE FORWARD TO RELEASE SUFFICIENT POWDER FOR USE'. The mirror is excellent & gives a super reflection. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. All the exterior edges are the are brass with the most beautiful deep golden patina & the front edge is signed 'Palmers'. The base has a few minor scuff marks & a small amount of enamel loss but all in all the whole compact is excellent.
This beauty comes with an immaculate felt drawstring pouch.

This highly collectible Art Deco compact measures 2 1/4" X 2 1/4" & weighs 76.1.
