Rare antique Kummer pocket watch with chain

A rare antique Edward Kummer pocket watch with chain.
The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the initials EKB for Edward Kummer of Bettlach. The EKB watch factory was founded in 1888 for the manufacture of pocket watches. The firm successfully grew from initially employing 20 watchmakers to 720 workers by the beginning of the 20th Century. In the 1920s, EKB was one of the first manufacturers to offer a waterproof wrist watch and, for this reason, the company name was changed to Atlantic.
The movement in this particular watch has a 1910 patent which relates to the workings of the movement and probably also to the unusual feature of this watch which is the subsidiary second hand which actually moves anti-clockwise. The number counters on the sub seconds dial also count down in an anti clockwise direction.
The watch itself measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and is in good condition for its age, just light surface marks and some gentle unevenness to the back.
The acrylic lens is in good condition, just the odd light mark.
The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, Munn, Sheerness, who was also listed as a watch and antique clock maker. The dial is in lovely condition with blued steel hands which are initially pin-set.
The watch comes with a single albert which measures 31cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.
The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box.
For a video of the watch ticking, please go to Facebook and search for The Vintage Wrist Watch Company. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
