A rare and highly collected example of an Arts and Crafts Compton pottery owl bookend by Mary Seton Watts.
Amusingly and well modelled as a pair of barn owls in relief, this is a good example of Compton especially with owls as the subject matter.
A well potted and seldom seen example that has been well painted well with little or no loss to the paintwork where usually there is significant losses due to the nature of the soft white body and tempera egg based paint work.
Compton was sold in several London shops, including Liberty & Co.
Size: 16cm tall with impressed Compton Pottery Guildford and Made in England marks to the base. The original shop price label of 5 shillings is affixed to the base.
Circa: 1900.
Condition: In excellent original condition with little or no loss to the paintwork where usually there is significant loss due to the nature of the soft white body and tempera egg based paint work.
