Rare Elm Dresser by Augustus Pugin
An extremely rare solid elm dresser by Augustus Pugin. English Circa 1840.
Augustus Pugin was an English architect, principally remembered for his pioneering role in the Gothic Revival style of architecture. His work involved designing the interior of the Palace of Westminster in London, England, and its iconic clock tower, which houses the bell known as Big Ben.
Pugin designed many churches in England, and some in Ireland and Australia.
This unusual dresser uses thick elm pegged together, the sides are 40mm thick and have a wonderful shape, with fluted geometric patterns carved into the wood and quatrefoil cut out on either side.
The high back holds 2 shelves above 2 drawers with hexagonal elm handles which are also held in place with pegs.
