Rare Gilbert Islands stingray Temeran club, 1870
A very rare antique 19th Century Gilbert Islands club/sword, c1870. This weapon was used traditionally by Kirbati warriors.
The handle and inner shaft are made from coconut wood covered in stingray skin, with a stingray barb on the shaft. We approached an expert in Oceanic antiques and have an email from him confirming authenticity of the piece.
It has aged well with great rich colour/patina. Overall condition is good with only minor surface wear/rubbing. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact us with any questions or if you would like to view the item.
