Rare Hille Robin Day Reclining Chair one of two

A rare Hille Robin Day Reclining Chair, designed for Hille in 1952. This particular chair has been in the same family (mine) since new, circa 1955.
The slimness of its design and the angularity made it a very striking chair, but it is comfortable. The painted black steel frame is deliberately left exposed with the out swept arm rests standing proud.
It is one of Robin Day's most striking early designs, and one which he himself considered one of his most successful.
This chair was reupholstered in a charcoal tweed in the early 1990's.
One of two which are available (the other has original Hille Mist Tweed Upholstery, albeit worn)
PriceSOLD! DimensionsHeight 93cm Width 88cm Depth 73cm Category Post 1940 Furniture Date Mid Century Modern 1950s Antiques Material Upholstered Origin English Maker Hille Designer Robin Day Condition Good for its age. Some markings to the armrests. The chair was reupholstered in 1994 so now could benefit from replacement of the foam. The pair of chairs could be reupholstered as a matching pair.
