Rare Late19th Century Marquetry Inlaid Settle


Fine and Rare example of English design , possibly a one off commission. Late 19th Mahogany Framed and Marquetry Inlaid Settle/Settee in the style of George Faulkner Armitage.
The upright button upholstered back framed with a styalised band of marquetry inlays to the top and shaped and carved restrained buttresses to the sidesdown to an upholstered seat. The side panels line inlaid to the inner sides and exuberantly inlaid with marquetry panels to the oiuter sides. All raised on three sets of square tapering and marquetry inlaid legs terminating in stepped feet and linked by front to back stretchers.

Dimensions: 185cm Wide X 72cm Deep X 152cm High
Reference: George Faulkner Armitage was a prolific architect and antique furniture designer 1849-1937. He designed interiors and furniture for a number of important commissions including The Fine Art Society , London The Devonshire ClubMansfield College and Bramhill...the latter being particularly noted for his use of l ight woods, and intricate marquetry using natural motifs and designs.
