Rare Scottish barometer by Della Torre of Perth

A fine quality rosewood wheel barometer with rare brass inlay and an unusually small main dial.
The rare 6" diameter silvered brass dial calibrated from 28" to 31" with weather indications and excellent scroll engraving to the centre. The barometer reading is indicated by a blued steel hand and can be recorded with a brass set hand controlled with the set key below the main dial. The dial is enclosed within a glazed convex brass bezel fitted to the case at the rear. The silvered brass thermometer scale is calibrated from 0º to 120º Fahrenheit and is set beneath a bowed glass and has the option of removing it for measuring the temperature elsewhere. Also with a working hygrometer to the top and a bubble level to the base of the barometer with the makers name engraved Della Torre, Perth.
The rosewood veneered case is of the highest quality throughout and is inlaid with brass edge inlay, a decorative design to the centre and also a similar design surrounding the set key aperture. The very top of the barometer features a swan neck design and is finished with central brass finial.
Note: There is a Joseph Della Torre listed as working in Perth between 1820 to 1850. Its very unusual to see brass inlay on a wheel barometer. This was only used on the very finest examples. This feature combined with the smaller 6 inch dial makes this barometer extremely rare indeed.
