Regency Bracket Clock by Greenwood, Rochester

Regency Mahogany Repeating Bracket Clock.
Chamfer top, finely figured brass bound case with side carrying handles, side fishscale silk lined brass frets surmounted by a pineapple finial and standing on brass ball feet.
Original painted dial with finely cut ‘Moonpoise’ hands, Roman numerals and signed ‘Greenwood, Rochester’.
Large fine quality, eight day double Fusee movement striking the hours on a silvered bell with pull repeat and pendulum stop. C.1815
An Elegant English Bracket Clock.
‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brain Loomes lists John Greenwood as working ‘opposite the Rump’ in High Street, Rochester (Kent) from 1793 to 1795. His son, also John worked from the same address from 1815. This clock dates from c.1815 to 1820 so would be attributed to John Greenwood (Junior). ‘Michael Pearsons’ informative book shows an example of a Longcase clock by John Greenwood. (pg.150)
