No: 10981
A small Regency Period Mahogany and Walnut Wellington Chest, the three quarter galleried top above four drawers with a side locking pillar and raised on bracket feet.
Circa1830
Price :£ 1475-00p.
H:18”, 46 cms, W:15.25”, 39cms, D:10”, 25.5 cms.
Note: These miniature pieces are often referred to as “Apprentice Pieces” with the justification that before an apprentice cabinetmaker would be let loose on making a major piece he would have to prove capable of making fine items in miniature without the risk of wasting expensive materials, time and wages. Another explanation is that these were made by craftsmen as samples of wares to show to prospective clients and take orders for the full sized equivalents without the outlay in advance.
