Richard Foxton of Derby Longcase clock

An eight day oak Longcase clock by Richard Foxton of Derby. Foxton was working in the mid to late 18th century and this rare example dates from about 1765. Though a good maker this is only the third example I have seen in 25 years.
The brass silvered dial is well engraved and incorporates a mouth Calander with Roman hour numerals and Arabic minute numerals. Round dial clocks were extremely popular at this date in the midland area especially Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Later the brass examples became less popular as painted dials became available.
Clock hands are blued steel and origanial to the clock. The well made movement is of high quality and has been serviced only recently.
The small oak case with its Derby style architect pediment is in surpurb condition and has good colour and patination. It has an attractive bezel surrounding the dial and a hood door lock. It's simply style and compact size makes it desirable for modern or traditional homes.
Richard Foxton was married to Elizabeth Boot of Sutton in Ashfield. She is a well known clock maker and the Boot family are a very well known family having produced very many clocks. It's thought after the marriage she continued to produce clock signed Boot though seems to have bought in movements by other makers regularly.
The final black and white photo is of a similar clock dial also by Foxton and very similar
