Robb, Montrose Small Georgian Longcase/Grandmother

A very small Georgian Scottish Longcase/Grandmother clock. A mahogany case of neat proportions with satinwood crossbanding to the trunk door. A swan-neck hood pediment with side glass hood apertures showing the mechanism. Reeded hood sides. A brass dial with a silvered chapter ring and a recessed seconds dial. Blued steel hands. An arched name cartouche signed 'William Robb, Montrose'
A 7-day duration, weight driven mechanism striking the hours on a bell. It has the original, slim lead weights often seen on Scottish clocks. Circa 1780.
William Robb of Montrose was a very talented clockmaker. He is illustrated on the front and back cover of Whytes' 'Scottish Clock & Watchmakers' book and is listed as working from 1746-1780.
Height 6ft"/ 184cms Width 14 1/2" / 37cms Depth 7" / 18cms.
