Roger de la Corbiere 1893-74 Oil St.Jacut Brittany
We are delighted to offer for sale this large oil on canvas by the French artist Roger de la Corbiere, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner and inscribed it verso in the middle of the canvas ' St. Jacut Cote de Bretagne'. St. Jacut de la Mere is a popular seaside town on the coast of Brittany with several wonderful beaches and the painting depicts one of these at sunrise.
ROGER DE LA CORBIERE, 1893-1974, was a French artist who was born in Vienna. He studied under the Russian painter Choltse, who was a great exponent of light and shade particularly in snow scenes. He exhibited at the Paris Salon for 35 years, receiving the Silver Medal in 1954. In 1957 he received the Bronze Medal from the Salon des Independants. The French State acquired several of his paintings in 1925. His painting are in the collections of many well known persons throughout the world.
He worked mainly from his studio in Brittany, but also spent some time in the Riviera. His daughter carried on the family tradition, painting similar scenes.

The painting is framed in its original 4" cream and gilt frame, with white speckled slip and will be supplied with new brass fittings, brass wired and ready to hang.

Condition: Excellent condition. There are no repairs to the canvas which is clean and taut. There is no craquelure, paint loss or stretcher marks. The frame is in very good condition.
