Rolex Oyster Royal Stainless Steel Watch 1940
For sale we have a good example of a WW2 era gentleman's 1940 stainless steel Rolex Oyster Royal wristwatch.
This gentleman's stainless steel sweep second watch with a screw down Rolex patented Oyster crown has a lightly aged silvered dial with an outer railroad minute chapter and an inner hour chapter marked Arabic luminous numerals. The dial is signed Rolex Oyster Royal beneath the 12 0'clock position and Swiss made beneath the subsidiary second hand dial. The dial is completed with luminous painted steel hour and minute hands and a black steel second. All the hands are in a good but aged condition. The dial is encapsulated beneath a good clean acrylic crystal. The stainless steel case is in an excellent condition although the Rolex crown signed back carries a number of scratches. the back also carries the serial number 100153 dating the watch to 1940 along with the case reference is 2280.
Removal of the screw in case back reveals that the inside of the case back is signed Oyster Watch Co, Geneva - Swiss follewed by a list of national patents. The inside of the case back also carries some servicing marks indicating that the watch has been maintained during its life.
Removal of the case back also reveals the 10 1/2 Hunter manual wind movement that powers the watch. The movement is signed Rolex 17 rubies, Swiss Made, Fab Suisse and Patented Suberbalance. The movement is in an excellent condition having just been cleaned and serviced by our watchmaker.
The watch is a small gentleman's watch measuring just under 1 & 1/4 inches (30mm) excluding the crown and is presented on a new white stitched brown leather strap. This watch like all of our watches is being sold with a full twelve month warranty.
Unfortunately this watch cannot be shipped to the USA because of customs restrictions prohibiting the import of Rolex watches into the USA.
