Here is a stunning quality antique rosewood & brass inlaid William IV games & sewing worktable (circa 1840). The top of the worktable is inlaid with brass line work, which is in parallel to a refined chamfered top. The tabletop swings half way to allow the top to open to reveal a bird’s eye maple & satinwood chequer board and a mustard colour leather and gold tool perimeter. Below, is a single working brass line strung drawer which features rosewood knobs, a brass round escutcheon and a working lock and key. The drawer is hand dovetailed and constructed of mahogany. Below the drawer are two elegant finials. Further below, is a pull out workbasket, which has been lined with floral silk upholstery. The front of the workbasket features a beaded frieze and a brass studded handle to the centre. The table stands on moulded “S” send supports, which are united by a turned central stretcher, on four short scroll feet.

This item would look great in a variety of rooms from the hallway, to the living or dining room or bedroom. It has a beautiful deep rich patina, which has been generated by the centuries of cleaning and care it has received.

There is no missing brass string inlay. The table hinges and drawer lock are original. There is a working key to the drawer. The pullout workbasket lining upholstery is clean and intact. The table features the original polish, which is what gives the table such a stunning patination. All in all, this item is in excellent condition considering its age.
