Royal Lancastrian Art Deco Vase by WS Mycock 1930


Attractive Art Deco incise decorated vase by William S Mycock for Pilkington’s Royal Lancastrian, dated 1930. Stylised underwater design created by incising through the top blue glaze to reveal a cyan underglaze. Geometric band to neck. Impressed Pilkington’s Royal Lancastrian mark to base used 1930 to 1938. Incised monogram for William S Mycock and his year cypher for 1930. Incised shape number 188 which was part of the Special Shape series produced to accommodate new designs from the late 1920s to 1938. The vase is 21.5 cm in height and 17 cm maximum diameter.
This vase is in excellent original condition with no cracks, chips or restoration. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
William Mycock completed his apprenticeship at Wedgwood but left to become a "jobbing" artist working at a number of potteries, gaining experience of a variety of techniques. He joined Pilkington as a tile artist in 1894 but moved to Pilkington’s pottery department c1906 where he remained until his retirement in 1938 (after its closure). He was Pilkington's longest serving pottery artist. Viewing welcomed - please contact us in advance.
