Rubens Southey 1881-1933 Watercolour Fal Estuary

This is a lovely watercolour by the British artist RUBENS A.J.N. SOUTHEY, who has signed the painting Rubens Southey in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a view of the estuary of the River Fal, near Falmouth in Cornwall and is entitled verso 'Evening on the River Fal, near Falmouth. There are some sailing boats on the river and it just looks like a warm summers evening.
To quote from Jeremy Wood's excellent and very useful book 'Hidden Talents' about this artist -
'Painter in watercolour of landscapes and coastal scenes who was born at Wellington, Somerset, in 1881. He does not appear to have exhibited widely, but may have shown nine works at Elands Art Gallery, Exeter in 1906 and 1907 under the name of Robert Southey. The subjects were typical including 'The Coast near Bude, Cornwall' and 'Dartmoor, High Tor'. The work is of good quality and the West Country locations make the pictures popular. A number of large coloured prints of his work were published particularly of the coastal subjects. Rubens Southey died at Newton Abbot in 1933 at the age of 53.'
Fronm our research of the Census records, in 1891, Rubens Augustus John Nicholas Southey, was living with his grandfather and widowed mother, both of whom were living on their own means, along with his siblings and his aunt, in Wellington, Somerset. By 1901, Rubens was living with his mother and siblings in Teignmouth, Devon and he was listed as an ironmonger's Assistant. In the 1911 Census, which is the last one available for public viewing, he was living with his mother at 8 Beatrice Avene, Plymouth and was listed as an Artist/Painter.
