Scottish William IV Figured Elm Fitted Wardrobe

A very unusual Scottish William IV figured elm two door wardrobe dating to circa 1830. With a moulded cornice above a front displaying narrow ‘hollow-end’ panelled edges with flower and dot motifs to the top and flanking two fielded panelled doors with re-entrant corners and further arched moulding within. The interior is well fitted with a hat shelf, sliding tray, drawers, full length hanging space and the original, beautifully ornate, gilt and ceramic hooks. Stands on a plinth base.
Attractive, light and exceptionally well figured elm veneers to the front with original brass lock incorporating the turned wooden knob handle and ‘Horne Patent’ hinges. The interior still has the original blue-green moire/watered lining and unusually all the hanging hooks are intact, a brass hanging rail has been added for convenience. In good condition with minor marks consistent with age including some dark marks to the sides, the lining is marked and ready for replacing.
The overall dimensions at the largest points are approximately
Width - 60in (152.5cm)
Depth - 25.5in (65cm)
Height - 81.75in (207.5cm)
Internal depth - 20.25in (51.5cm)
Internal height of hanging section (left) - 57.75in (146.5cm)
Internal height of hat space (right) - 23.5in (59.5cm)
For transportation and moving this wardrobe splits into three sections (cornice, main section and plinth).
Ref: 0546
We have a matching pair of bedside cupboards and pot cupboard available separately at the time of listing.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or more photos as we are limited in the number we can upload.
Please appreciate all our items are antique and as such may have minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits signs of old woodworm, and minor losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina. We cannot describe each marks separately and therefore suggest you do take the time to request extra photos. We do offer a 14 day money back guarantee for UK purchases but cannot refund the return shipping cost.
