This secret book box has been made from a French book from the 1700’s entitled ‘Oeuvres de Guessa’. The book binding has been put around a box that has been lined on the exterior in a wood veneer whose grain mimics the pages of a book. On the inside, the box has been lined with a lovely cream and gold paper of flowers and grasses. The leather on the exterior has been gilt tooled with a border around both the back and the front. The leather seam on the front cover has been reinforced with a new piece of leather and conservation linen hinge tape so the lid moves with ease without concern of the seam breaking. The cover has a gorgeous patina and Mark that speak to is taken significant age and great use. This is a lovely piece.
