Serpent Necklace in 9ct Gold

1 of 6
9ct Serpent Necklace
Jewellery with snake motifs experienced in the entire 19th century. Century wide popularity, but only in the decadent era of Art Déco reached the snake fashion their zenith, as the present Collier has impressively demonstrated. In this moving and life time exotic motif was exactly the right thing, to provide a sensation on the boisterous evening events.
In the design of this decorative reptile goldsmith and Engineer enter a successful symbiosis, which makes it a very exciting piece of gem history: the body of the snake consists of a golden "gas chain" which owes its name to a new invention. For the first time succeeded in that time, to build extremely durable and stable gas pipes made of metal, which should be at the same time flexible and bendable.
This invention was taken up in the art of jewelry eager, yet very flexible and decorative pipe, offered to make necklaces or bracelets. So arose soon after the "gas chain" made of gold or silver and spread all over Europe. So she called in the English-speaking world as "Gas Tube" or even "Tubogas" and was stylistic element in the era of Art Déco and image currently up in the post-war period. Is always round, slightly flattened, and flexible tubes, which are constructed from a single, mesh metal profile, the are mobile and could place but with a stop to neck or wrist.
The gas chain, from which our snake is formed, consists of 9-carat yellow gold and leads to massive ends which form the head and tail of the snake. Two red rubies are the eyes of the head engraved with scales and give something mysterious to the look of the snake. The Collier soft wraps around the neck and is a spectacular eye-catcher.
Piece of jewellery in these motifs are known since classical antiquity and were incorporated into the jewellery design at the ancient Egyptians. Wonderfully received, that inspires Collier by his exquisite workmanship, its beautiful materials and his skilful design of the late Art Déco. According to stamping the piece is manufactured Cropp & Farr in Birmingham in 1950s in the Goldsmith. Forged in ancient tradition with new ideas, the piece of jewellery might even a mysterious aura - a completely seductive jewel gives its wearer or his carrier!
