Offered for sale is this good set of eight early Victorian mahogany balloon/spoon back dining chairs. The chairs are a lovely mellow brown mahogany colour which would go equally well with a walnut or mahogany table. The set of eight Victorian mahogany balloon back chairs have a shaped back rail above a carved centre rail with newly recovered overstuffed seats on turned suports. These are a good quality robust set of chairs dating from about 1840. The balloon back chairs are in excellent showroom condition having been cleaned, revived and waxed along with the seats recovered in a neutral cream and gold material. The chairs have a makers plate attached to the underside " Traies & Son, Elgin Works, Notting Hill". In addition some have the imprint " T Willson, 68 Great Queen Street, London". T Willson, 1799 - 1854 is listed as a antique furniture broker, auctioneer and appraiser who often stamped the good quality second hand furniture he sold. Further refernces can be found online.
