Set of 14 Chairs by Gill & Reigate Ltd London
Superb quality set of Fourteen Mahogany Dining Chairs bearing the stamp of the well known cabinet makers Gill & Reigate London, the arched top rail with pierced vase shaped splat below, serpentine shaped front to the seat and standing on square tapering front legs terminating in a spade foot an added sign of quality is the chairs have two stretchers to the legs instead of the usual one
Good condition with usual age related marks and wear
Size 96cm tall 52cm wide 48cm deep seat height 46cm
The firm of Gill & Reigate was founded in 1898, and by 1901, trading at 85 Oxford Street, London, they described themselves as 'Dealers in Antique & Modern Furniture, Artistic Decorators and Upholsterers'. They were decorators to King George V. The firm appears to have lasted until 1958, then trading at Arlington House, Arlington Street.
During the period 1915-1920 the firm were engaged on the restoration and furnishing of Sulgrave Manor, under the direction of the architect Sir Reginald Blomfield.
