A handsome and fine quality set of eight (six standard and two elbow) Edwardian walnut dining chairs in the Queen Anne or early Georgian manner, generously proportioned and of particularly good weight of timber, having shaped cresting rails with paper scroll carved decoration, shaped splats, upholstered drop-in seats, and raised on bold cabriole legs with C-scroll carving to the front and swept sabre legs united by turned stretchers to the rear.
Bears retailer’s label to the underside of some chairs for ‘Neate & Sons’, antique dealers of Devizes.
Elbow Chairs: Width 23″ (58cm) Depth 23″ (58cm) Height (overall) 42″ (107cm) Height (Seat) 19” (48cm)
Standard Chairs: Width 22″ (56cm) Depth 22″ (56cm) Height (overall) 41″ (104cm) Height (Seat) 19” (48cm)
Condition and Details of Restoration:
These chairs are in original structural condition and completely sound with no breaks or repairs. The polish has been revived, by hand, by our own craftsmen in the traditional manner. The polish has faded attractively in places. There are minor old marks underneath the polish as might be expected on chairs of this age the worst of this can be seen in the detail photograph of the splat. The upholstery has been replaced, approximately 15 years ago, with horsehair, in the traditional manner, and remains in good condition.
