A very interesting and decorative set of four landscape paintings representing the seasons. The four are all quite naïve in style with a charming simplicity and decorative appeal that is heightened by the four amazingly still being together. Spring is represented by a river landscape with fresh green leaves on the trees. Summer is depicted with a harvested field, and man gathering firewood. The scene for Autumn is depicted with a ploughed field and leaves turning brown. Winter is a snowy landscape with figures walking home. The paintings are signed and dated ‘D.Waller 1913’ the artist is not recorded and is almost certainly a talented amateur or journeyman who set out to create this series either for themselves or as a local commission. The works all retain the original simple gilt frames which are in good untouched conditions. The paintings have been professionally cleaned and small minor restoration made. The group have a wonderful simple decorative appeal and are ready to hang.
