Shapland & Petter Arts & Crafts Oak Box Settle
A very well made Arts & Crafts solid oak box settle by Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple c1900. A moulded top rail with dental cornice, panelled back with marquetry detail, hinged lid with storage space below and raised on bun feet.
This is a really lovely settle, with a good colour, in excellent condition, and has had a very quiet easy life!
It was bought from Morgans of Cardiff c1910 and has stayed in Cardiff where I bought it from. Very little wear, and the under seat storage base which is made of elm is in such good condition, it looks like nothing has ever been stored in it!
The settle is stamped to the back with the registered design number of 141 and an image of the settle can be found in the Shapland & Petter archive catalogue.

Seat height 46cm Our stock items are carefully selected by myself and I only buy good quality items which may need small repairs, a clean and a polish. I don't buy any items that need major restoration, but any loose joints are re-glued. Occasionally, some items may have small amounts of historic extinct woodworm, never enough to affect the integrity of the item, and is always treated as a matter of course. We try to describe and show our items the best we can, and we use studio lighting which sometimes lightens the colour slightly on some of the furniture. All lamps are rewired and PAT tested. Every item we sell we would have in our home (some of them have been!!) It is impossible to describe every item fully, so please feel free to email or call for more information or any queries you may have. The items will have no major defects but will show signs of normal age related wear and use. I would prefer the items to show its life rather than strip it and re-polish it, as it's only original once!
