A great Art Nouveau Bedside Cupboard, or Pot Cupboard, manufactured by Shapland and Petter of Barnstaple circa 1900. The cabinet is beautifully carved in relief with stylised tulips to the door and toprail and is stamped to the back with the number R109. Please see "Shapland and Petter Ltd. Of Barnstaple." by Daryl Bennett, page 92, for an illustration of a similar shaped cabinet but with marquetry inlay. The carving is beautifully crisp and the metalwork similarly well-detailed. It is suitable not just in the bedroom but also as a low cabinet / table beside a sofa.
