The solid top with fine figured mahogany with interesting chevron, ebony, boxwood and broad crossbanding, the fore-edge with double string inlay, as are all the supporting spars on the uprights, two tiers of four sections each with a small shelf separating each one. Beneath the bottom shelf there is a deep frieze with double string inlay, and the whole piece rests on a cruciform wood and metal base with a large rod which allows the bookcase to revolve with ease.
