Shoolbred Walnut & Brass Hall/Stick Stand

A highly decorative and exceptional quality Victorian walnut hall stand, having brass finials, and shelf with baluster turned pierced gallery, supported by a brass S-scroll mount, above a panelled back with brass tubular stick/umbrella holder, a removeable tin drip tray to the bottom, and raised on brass swept bracket feet.
Attributable to James Shoolbred & Co. by design and quality.
Height 45” (114cm) Width 22” (56cm) Depth 10” (25cm)
About Shoolbred:
James Shoolbred started his company in London in the 1820s, selling textiles, carpets and other items for interior decorating. In the 1870’s the company was designing and producing original, high-quality furniture, often inspired by the aesthetic qualities of E.W. Godwin’s architecture. Within another decade the company expanded and moved into a larger location in London, becoming one of the first department stores. The company was granted a Royal warrant by the mid-1880s and their furniture was among the highest quality available of the late Victorian period. Despite James Shoolbred & Co’s popularity and market presence, the company struggled after the market crash of 1929 and closed for good in 1931.
Condition & Details of Restoration:
This item is in sound original structural condition. The polish has been revived, and the brass work cleaned, by our own craftsmen, by hand in the traditional manner. There are some extremely minor old marks commensurate with age in our opinion, the photographs are representative.
