Silver half pint tankard. Animals Glasgow 1877.
A fabulous solid silver half pint tankard hallmarked by the Glasgow Assay office in 1877. It was made and retailed by the highly respected silversmiths George Edward and Sons of Buchanon Street Glasgow.
As can be seen in the photographs it is highly decorated with animals, both exotic and domestic. The decoration continues throughout the tankard, including the handle. The inside is gilded and there is a vacant cartouche to the front, making it ideal for a gift or presentation.
The animals are
A pig, a dog with kennel, a lion, an elephant, an okapi, a camel and a ram.
The Glasgow hallmark is crisp and easily readable, having little or no wear.
It stands 4 inches or 10 centimeters tall and has a good weight of 218 grams.
The condition is very good with little wear and no dents.
