Silver LeCoultre chrono pocket watch, J W Benson

Antique Jaeger LeCoultre chrono pocket watch, J W Benson.
An antique silver chronograph pocket watch, made by Jaeger LeCoultre, imported by Baume and examined and retailed by J W Benson.
The chronograph has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement carries the brevet number 5682 underneath the dial. This relates to an 1892 patent in the name of LeCoultre & Cie, for, “safety lever for chronograph-counters, called "instantaneous". It also has the name of the original importer, Baume.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has the personal inscription, “Edward Dangerfield, from Daisy Ridley”, and also, “Watch maker by Warrant to The Queen, examined by J W Benson, 62 & 64 Ludgate Hill, London, Swiss made”.
The watch measures 53mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 935 silver and there are Swiss hallmarks inside both of the case backs. The front and back of the case is in good condition. There is some unevenness around the side but not too detrimental.
The watch has an acrylic lens… it has a small scuff, only around 1mm in diameter but otherwise in lovely condition.
The dial is in lovely condition. Two subsidiary dials, one for constant seconds and the other to record up to 60 minutes. Pin-set hands.
The chronograph is operated by pressing the winding crown to stop, start and re-set.
There is also an oval button to the side of the case. This stops and starts the chronograph but was originally for a split seconds feature on the watch. This feature has been disabled and the second chronograph hand removed at some stage in its life. This work was often carried out on pieces intended for military use in the second World War to avoid discrepancies.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
