Silver pair cases, repousse - Tarts, London, 1780

MOVEMENT Signed and numbered (17199) gilt brass verge movement, with four square pillars, engraved balance bridge and plate, and silver regulator disc. Nice 'lace' edging to balance bridge. Complete and running.
DIAL White enamel dial, in average condition, with a couple of light hairlines, and repairs at the centre and between 4 and 6 on the edge. Fancy gilt hands. This dial is a replacement though the dial plate appears to be original.
INNER CASE Silver, hallmarked for London, 1788, maker ?B (rubbed). The main part of the case is fine, but the pendant has been reattached and the hinge is worn and possibly repaired (the bezel will snap shut but leaving a gap). The high dome crystal is fine.
OUTER CASE Silver repousse. Good condition with slight wear to high points of the repousse work, resulting in a few tiny pin holes. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely.
Tarts is a name commonly used to sign watches made on the Continent during the mid 18th century. These are usually marked 'London' but were probably made in Holland or Switzerland. The English silver hallmarks on the inner case could be spurious.
Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
