Silver Plate & Mother of Pearl Fruit or Desert Set
I have never come across such a lavish and and exquisite lined case for a set of these late Victorian fruit knives and forks before. The interior of the solid Oak case is a real joy, lined a beautiful printed pure silk to the center of the lid and to the base underneath the layer of forks. Both are surrounded by a perfect Teal coloured velvet.
The knives and forks are beautifully decorated and all fully marked by the silversmith, LEVESLEY BROTHERS & LLOYD of Sheffield. The lid of the case also has the retailer's label in Edwin Davis, Late Allott and Co., Bradford.
The handles are all made of solid carved and polished Mother of Pearl shell or Nacre with a wonderful shiny patina showcasing it's magical iridescent qualities.
Excellent condition, each knife measuring 8" each fork measuring 6 3/4" and the case measuring 11 3/4" x 9 1/4" x 2 1/4". Late Victorian in era, c.1890 / 1900.
