Silver Plate Mussel Shell Serving Dish, Kemp Bros

Here we have a stylish Silver Plated Serving Dish with frosted glass liners from the interwar years. The dish is formed as a pair of mussel shells with the moulded glass liners shaped to match. It stands on four ball feet and has a c-shaped handle between the shells. The dish can be used for serving snacks or nibbles or for sauces on the table or appropriately for small seafood items such as prawns and shellfish.
The mussel shell dish is made by Kemp Brothers of Bristol and dates to around the 1920s/30s. It is trademarked as Kembro Plate, a range of their own silver plate that Kemp Brothers were marketing at this time. Established in 1889, Kemp Brothers remains a antique jewellery store in Bristol to this day.
Condition of the serving dish is very good with no dings or dents and no significant plate loss. The frosted glass liners each have a small chip out of the rim on the straight edge but remain perfectly functional. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The dish is 17.6cm / 7ins long, 17.4cm / 6.8ins wide and 8.9cm / 3.25ins high to the top of the handle. It weighs 380g / 13.4oz.
The marks are on the underside of the bar joining the two shell pieces together. It says Kembro Plate, Kemp Brothers, Union St, Bristol.
