Silver Plated Tea Strainer, Atkin Bros, c.1910/20s

This is an attractive and practical early 20th century Silver Plated Tea Strainer. The main body of the strainer is bulbous, so the tea can be poured in at a good steady rate. The rim is decorated with shells and there is a larger shell descending vertically from the rim which clips over the edge of the teacup. The strainer holes are in a flower pattern.
The tea strainer is made in Sheffield by Atkin Brothers and dates to around the 1910s or 1920s. With a history dating back to around 1750, Atkin Brothers was one of the most successful silversmiths and electroplaters in Sheffield through the 19th and first half of the 20th century. They were finally bought out in 1958.
Condition is very good with just one truly tiny ding in the bowl and no plate loss, just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after around 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The tea strainer is 9cm / 3.5ins in diameter across the top and stands 4.5cm / 1.8ins high. It weighs 100.2g / 3.5oz.
The underside of the strainer has the HA EA FA makers' mark for Harry, Edward & Frank Atkin of Atkin Brothers. It also has the trade mark of a hand grasping three ostrich feathers, which they used in the late 19th and early 20th century and the EPNS mark for silver plate. In addition on the underside of the rim is the registered design number 575210, which shows that the design originally dates to 1910/11.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
