Small Oak Arts & Crafts Coffee Table Dated 1954

Interesting little Arts & Crafts oak drop leaf coffee or side table dated 1954. 23½" diameter top with two folding leaves. Carved with a starburst design in the centre and inscribed around the edge with the legend Love Is Our Guiding Star together with the names Anna and Bernard and the date 1954. Presumable the table was a wedding gift. The underside of the centre leaf is also inscribed 'Samuel Dyer Gough Nantclwyd House Ruthin. Age 82½ Years'. Raised on shaped ends with carved Gothic arch forming the feet and joined with a useful shelf with through tenons. With a ring mark and minor wear to the top, otherwise very good condition.

Nantclwyd House is believed to be the oldest timber frame house in Wales. Standing in the centre of the historic town of Ruthin it is open to the public as a museum.
