Solid Silver Early Hunter c1820s Masey Escapement

A rare Edward Massey Lever Escapement Pocket Watch ‘know as a Massey type 1 , with its integral safety action and slower ticking motion
Large Silver Hunter Style Fusee watch dating to c1820s, Hallmarks are rubbed II don’t believe this watch to be any later than c1820s
Watch case still in very good condition , back of the case opens fine , front needs to be open with a case knife , silversmith could well repair spring catch
Original top bow with original screw fixing which is all fine
Front inner bezel opens fine to set the time by placing key over centre of the hands
Watch movement very clean and working fine having recently been serviced and had a New fusee chain fitted and for a watch this age keeps very good time
Watch enamel dial still in excellent age condition, no cracks or chips , good size sweep second hand dial , Bold black numerals, and lovely gold coloured hands
Crystal watch glass with bezelled edge all fine no cracks or chips
I am not sure who made the watch , Edward Massey was not a watchmaker but specialised in making these escapements , looking at the excellent Quality of the watch could well have been made in Coventry around this period
Watch size 56 mm diameter , weight a heavy 158grams
Very interest pocket watch fit for any collection, watch with a lovely sounding tick c200 years old
