Spelter Figure of a Warrior


Circa mid 19th century, substantial spelter figure of a warrior on a pitch pine plinth. The shield on the warriors back has the name Poitevin stamped on it. Auguste Poitevin was a French sculptor born in 1819, and died in 1873. The warrior holds a lamp in one hand (originally an oil lamp) and is in full dress, all standing on a circular plinth with chasing on it. It has a bezel edge beneath it and is on a pitch pine base.The lamp can be re-wired for electricity.
Size 170 cm high x 31 cm diameter.
