Storr & Mortimer Silver Chest.

Superb early 19th.c. oak silver chest by the celebrated London silversmiths Storr and Mortimer c.1830. Iron bound with heavy iron handles, designed for the safe storage and transport of valuable silver plate. Original fitted interior with lift out tray and padded lid. With a brass name plate on the front for the splendidly named Reverand Beilby Porteus Hodgson. In untouched original condition, complete with the original key and featuring paper label for Storr & Mortimer on the inside lid.
Paul Storr (1771-1844) was probably the most highly regarded silversmith of his day, undertaking several elaborate neoclassical and rococo style commissions for British royalty and producing the Battle of the Nile Cup, made as a presentation piece for Admiral Nelson in 1799. His partnership with John Mortimer lasted from 1822 until 1838.
