This superb antique Tunbridge Ware writing slope dates from the second half of the nineteenth century. It is constructed from rosewood, some solid, some veneered, with elaborate moasic Tunbridge Ware decoration. The box has a floral border around the top with an upper panel featuring roses and a lower panel featuring a beautifully crafted falcon on a branch. The lock is to one side. The box opens up to reveal a purple velvet writing surface with a storage recess underneath, two ink wells with a hidden compartment between and a lidded compartment with sloped compartments at either side. The slope retains its lock and a working key. It is a beautifully crafted piece.

Condition: Overall in very good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. The Tunbridge Ware peregrine on the top has some slight lifting and cracking. The woodwork has some light scuffing and wear as might be expected. It has some signs of repair and restoration, including to the veneers, and looks to have been professionally restored at some point.
