A superb mid 19th. Century Anglo-Indian freestanding padouk davenport. Every surface having intricate carved detail including flora and fauna with scrolling vines. The top retains the original carved & pierced gallery above the sloping red leather lined fall which lifts to reveal a fitted interior having 2 small drawers and 3 pigeonholes below is a dummy drawer front which conceals the pen and ink drawer which is accessed on the right hand side (see photo). The right side has a carved and pierced door with red silk backing and opens to 4 graduated drawers all having good quality sunken brass handles. The front and left side having further carved and pierced panels with further red silk backing. The writing section supported by large wonderfully carved mythical beasts which stand on large carved “C” scrolls with further smaller mythical beasts inside the scrolls. This davenport stands on a pierced and carved base with mythical creatures to the front and raised on brass and porcelain casters. Condition - Very good with working locks and keys.
